John on the left when he worked for Team Mike, Mitrovica Region
This photo is of "American John" as all of the officers in the Leposavic Police Station knew him. John will always be like a brother to Officer Cayer and a few others in the Leposavic AOR. He was always there when they needed back up and shared many stories and drinks together for the year we were together.
John wrote Officer Cayer an e-mail some time ago and Officer Cayer would like to share parts of his story with web surfers. This may bring some reality as to what it can be like in the Balkans.
John is currently recovering from gun shot wounds to the chest. He took a blast from an AK-47, taking 4 rounds in the chest. His vest stopped two rounds but two made it through. He almost made the ultimate sacrifice.
John writes: "I got shot during an entry close to Bucharest. One of my colleagues first and then three more of us went down at the same time. The bad guys knew we were coming. As a result, I took four AK-47 rounds in the chest. Two rounds made it through the vest and two had the "decency" to stay in the vest.
His mail is very lengthy and he is hoping for a speedy recovery. This will be very hard on John ("Ioan Vlaico") who we called "The Romaniac" so if you would like to send him a "get well" e-mail, contact Officer Cayer at Officer Cayer's E-mail address.
