Sgt. Bernard grew up in the Rumford/Mexico Area and graduated
from Mountain Valley High School in 1991.
In July 1991, Bernard joined the United States Air Force
where he served four years active duty as a Security Police Officer.

Bernard was hired as a full-time Police Officer for the Town of Rumford
in 2000 and is a 2001 graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy,
where he earned the Sidney Bridges Memorial Firearms Proficiency Award.

Bernard was promoted to the Rank of Sergeant in March 2006.
May 2008 - June 2013, Bernard held the position of Detective Sergeant
within the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the department.
The position was cut for a year and Bernard returned to the patrol
division as a patrol supervisor where he remained by choice.

Bernard is currently the Department's Firearms Instructor.
Bernard is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, ice fishing,
and hiking. He spends time with his wife, Erin and two daughters.
