The Rumford Police Department was formed in 1895 and consisted of four officers and a working Chief. Today the Department is made up of 15 full-time Officers, Reserve Officers and School Crossing Guards. The Department houses the Dispatch Center and holding facility (Jail) for Northern Oxford County. The department has five divisions: Chief, Detective, Patrol, Dispatch/Jail and Bicycle Patrol. The Department maintains an officer with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and participates in the D.A.R.E. program, Special Olympics and many community related projects.
