HAPPY HOLIDAYS

On December 20th, Chief Stacy Carter announced that
Douglas Maifeld had been promoted from the rank of Corporal
to Sergeant. Chief Stacy Carter also announced that Patrolman
Lawrence Winson had been promoted to Corporal.
Congratulations to both officers.

Ian Theriault
On December 17th, Ian Theriault left
the department. We are sadden to see
Officer Theriault leave, but wish him well
at his new job at Scarborough, ME PD.


On December 17th, Bradlee Gallant completed
the 18-week 19th Law Enforcement Training Program at the
Maine Criminal Justce Academy in Vassalboro.
Congratulations and look for Officer Gallant on the road.

On December 16th, the Rumford Police Department begins an
OUI Enforcement Program. This grant funded program will
include saturation patrols through New Years Day.
Remember Maine has a strict drunk driving law. Don't risk
your life or the life of another by getting behind the wheel after
drinking intoxicating beverages. Please buckle up and have a
safe holiday season, because the life saved could be yours.

Matt Noyes
On December 14th, Matthew Noyes left
the department. We are sadden to see
Officer Noyes leave, but wish him well
at his new job at Oxford SO, ME.


On December 2nd, Matthew Noyes returned to Maine
following his deployment to Afghanistan.

November 2010

Sgt. F. David Bean
On November 22nd, Sgt. F. David Bean
retired from the department after 25 years of
service to the Town of Rumford. Enjoy retirement!!

On November 15th, the Rumford Police Department began a
2-Week Safety Belt Enforcement and Education Program titled
"Buckle Up, No Exucses". This is a grant received from the NHTSA
to educate motorist to be safe by buckling up. National Public
Service Ads say, "Click it or Ticket!" It is a $70 fine for a
first offense $160 fine for a second offense and $310 fine
for a third and subsequent offenses.
Please buckle up because the life saved could be yours.

October 2010

On October 25th, Chief Stacy Carter announced that
Joseph Sage and Brad Gallant have been hired as a full-time and Utility officer respectively.
Sage will began duties on November 8th and Gallant is
currently attending the Maine Criminal Justice Academy
and will begin duties on December 20th.

K. Scott Mills
On October 21st, K. Scott Mills left the department.
We are sadden to see Officer Mills leave,
but wish him well at his new job at Augusta, ME PD.


July 2010

On July 30th, Chief Stacy Carter announced that
Rick Kent has been hired as a full-time
Utility officer. He opted to return as the Code Enorcement Officer

June 2010

From June 19th to June 25th, Cpl. Douglas Maifeld was a Camp Leader
for a D.A.R.E. camp called Camp P.O.S.T.C.A.R.D. in Stoneham, Maine.

On June 10th, Officers from the Rumford, Mexico and Dixfield
Police Departments along with the Maine State Police ran the
Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Maine.


The torch run consists of numerous legs throughout Maine that run
the torch to the Summer Games at the University of Orono.
Our leg started in Rumford then went through Mexico and Dixfield on
Route 2 on its way to Waterville then onto Orono.

This years' runners who ran part or all of the six plus miles were

Ptl. Daniel Carrier, Ptl. Brad Gallant of the Mexico
Police Department and the Mexico PD Explorers.

On May 31st, the Rumford Police Department's
Honor Guard consisting of Sgt. James Bernard,
Acting Cpl. K. Scott Mills, Ptl. Lawrence Winson

and Ptl. Ian Theriault marched and presented
the colors for the Rumford / Mexico Memorial Day Parade.

April 2010

On April 10th, Corporal Douglas Maifeld did a Child ID with the use of
the IRIS scan at the Rumford Eagle's Club for their Kids Fest
"Child Advocacy"
. The event was a success with 21 new enrollments.
This was the sixth event that the Rumford Police Department has used the IRIS Scan.
The equipment is intended for use on children or the elderly with the purpose of
locating missing children and adults. The IRIS Scan is a new procedure that takes
an image of a childs eye and it gets saved in to a national database.
No two eyes are like just like your fingerprints. The only difference is your eyes
have more identifying marks then your fingerprints and are easier to access than
your fingerprints. For more information about this technology please visit the

On April 8th, Corporal Douglas Maifeld and
Sergeant Tracey Higley held the Rumford Police
Department's 23rd D.A.R.E. program culmination
celebrating our 22nd year educating the youth about the
dangers of drugs and violence in the River Valley area.
Congratulations to this years graduates. We
appreciate Sarah Long of WGME 13 for coming to
Rumford and being our Guest Speaker. If you missed
our celebration look for it on the access channel.

On October 3rd, Corporal Douglas Maifeld and Officer Eric N. Richard
did a Child ID with the use of the IRIS scan at the Rumford American Legion
for their Membership Drive. The event was a success with
with over 20 new enrollments. This was the fifth event that the Rumford Police

On September 8th, Rumford PD had a department meeting and
the photos below were taken. Officer Miller is missing from

August 2009

On August 17th, Donald Miller left to attend the 18 week
17th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at the
Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.

On August 14th, Officer Eric N. Richard and Patrolman Ian Theriault
did a Child ID with the use of the IRIS scan at the Rumford Marden's
for their Anniversary. The event was a success with
with over 20 new enrollments. This was the fourth event that the Rumford Police

August 2009 - Marden's Iris Child ID

On August 3rd at 9:42 PM, Officers respond to 244 Pine Street
to a report of two subjects who had been shot. The victims,
Roger Day, 48 and Victor Sheldon, 22, both of Rumford were fatally shot.
We have a very safe community as this is the first Homicide since
December 1994. The case is still under investigation. However,
on Friday August 7th, 2009, after nearly round the clock
investigating by the Maine State Police and Rumford Police,
Eric Hamel, 19 of Mexico and Richard Moulton, 20, of Mexico were both
arrested and have been charged with 2 counts of Murder.
They are scheduled to be in court in South Paris on
Monday August 10th for their initial appearance.

June 2009

From June 22th to June 26th, Cpl. Matthew Noyes was a Drill Instructor
for the Explorer Academy at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro, Maine.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Fenway Park was hopping with Mainers this weekend.
The Boston Red Sox celebrated Maine Day during Sunday's game against
the Atlanta Braves. Hundreds of Mainers were on hand for the game, and
University of Maine football coach Jack Cosgrove threw out the ceremonial
first pitch.The Portland-based barbershop quartet known as The Grateful Dads
sang the national anthem, and the Rumford police honor guard flew their colors
on the field in pre-game ceremonies.Gov. John Baldacci was there,
along with an honorary bat boy and girl from Maine.

From June 12th to June 19th, Cpl. Douglas Maifeld was a Camp Leader

yearly OUI Enforcement Program. This grant funded program will include
Saturation patrols, some roadblocks and continue through Labor Day
Weekend. Remember Maine has a strict drunk driving law. Don't risk

drinking intoxicating beverages.
April 2009

On April 11th, Corporal Douglas Maifeld and Officer Eric N. Richard
did a Child ID with the use of the new IRIS scan at the Rumford Eagle's Club
for their Kids Fest "Child Advocacy". The event was a complete success
with 43 new enrollments. This was the third event that the Rumford Police
Department has used the new IRIS Scan. The first was last fall with approximately
40 enrollments and recently we tried it at our local Head Start program
but wasn't as successful due to their young ages. The equipment is intended for use
on children age 5 and up with the purpose of locating missing children and adults.
Of note, we were successful on four children under 5 at the Rumford Eagle's Club.

Jennifer Cramer On March 10th, Jennifer Cramer left the department.
We are sadden to see Officer Cramer leave,
but wish her well in Washington State.

On March 10th, Chief Stacy Carter announced that
Donald Miller has been hired as a full-time officer.
He is scheduled to attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy
in August 2009 or January 2010.

February 2009

On February 19th, Chief Stacy Carter was named Public
Safety Director on an Interim basis. He will oversee the Police
and Fire Department. Lt. Daniel Garbarini was promoted
to the rank of Captain.

January 2009

On January 20th, Michael Belanger left to attend the 18 week
16th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at the
Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.

Eric Lippincott On January 3rd, Eric Lippincott left the department
to join the Scarborough, ME Police Department.
