On October 1st, the department ended a ten month grant funded
Domestic Violence Officer position. The officer assigned returned to regular
patrol duties. The grant is being continued by the Oxford County Sheriff's Department.
On July 6th, Chief Stacy Carter announced that Eric Lippincott had been hired as a full-time officer.
He is scheduled to attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy
in January 2008.
On June 18th, 2007 the dispatch center opened during business hours 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday thru Friday only.
The dispatch center changed from the 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. to this new time.
Citizens of the Rumford Area can continue to call the regular numbers and will be
answered by a Highly Trained Rumford Area Civilian Dispatcher.
During non-business hours the municipal doors will now be locked.
If you wish to speak to an officer you need to either call 9 - 1 - 1
if it is an Emergency, or call the regular number 364-4551, which will be forwarded to the Oxford County Regional Communication Center or dial 1-800-733-1421.
We can not respond to an emergency based on an e-mail.

On June 7th, 2007, Officers from the Rumford Police Department participated
in the 2007 Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Ptl. Douglas Maifeld (20th year), Ptl. Matthew Noyes (3rd year) and Ptl. Kim Scott Mills (2nd year). Brock Clukey (4th year), a Reserve Officer with the Department and Game Warden also ran.
April 29th, 2007, Ptl. George Cayer left the department to join
the Oxford County Sheriff's Department as a road deputy.
We are sadden to see Officer Cayer leave, but wish him well
at his new job.
April 21st, 2007, Ptl. Tracey Higley participated in a fundraiser
at the Rumford's Eagle's Club to benefit the D.A.R.E. Program.
This fundraiser was an all Male Beauty Contest where contestants dressed up
in drag. Rumford PD is proud to announce Tracey won this competition.
Congratulations Miss D.A.R.E. from your co-workers.
April 3rd, 2007 we celebrated our 20th DARE Graduation and Sgt. James Bernard, Ptl. Paul Casey, Ptl. Peter Casey and Ptl. Matthew Noyes
introduced the Rumford Police Department's Honor Guard.
These uniforms, pictured above, were made
possible thanks to the hard fundraising work of Linda French.
On March 29th, 2007 Ptl. Douglas Maifeld attended
the 2007 Special Olympics Conference in Wells, Maine.
The 2007 Law Enforcement Torch Run is in June.
Officer Maifeld is collecting donations and looking for your help

On March 16th, 2007 Chief Stacy Carter was temporarily
appointed Town Manager and Lt. Mark Cayer was temporarily
appointed Acting Chief of Police.
On February 21st, 2007 the 1st Citizen Police Academy program began.
It was delayed by a week due to the Valentine's Day Blizzard of 2007.

for information on the next possible class.
On February 15th, 2007 Chief Stacy Carter honored Thomas O'Brien and Dennis O'Brien for assisting Ptl. Tracey Higley with an arrest at the Muskie Building
in January. Roger White was also honored for helping Ptl. Peter Casey with a
Domestic Dispute in January. All three received a Citizen Award of Merit. Chief Carter noted that its important to recognize citizens when they do good deeds by going above and beyond.
